Detox after Christmas and New Year Festivities

ID-100188920The revelry has come and gone and now you feel like— well, hopefully nothing has changed at all. But when you looked at yourself in the mirror, you’re suddenly convinced you’ve indulged too much during the holidays. And when a friend echoes what you thought you saw and tells you, “You’ve gained weight!” You begin to worry a little bit.

But here comes the last straw…you tried on a pair of jeans and you needed to hold your breath, roll over a few times (turn a little blue fom holding your breath for quite some time) zip them up, only to feel they don't fit you anymore.

That’s when you really fret and join the herd in the gym. While the seasoned gym goers are complaining because membership sign-ups are going higher and gyms are packed with people who are intent on keeping a head start on their New Year’s resolution.

Usually though, two weeks after, 95% of them are never seen again. I hope you are not one of them because yours is an intention for a healthier lifestyle—which is long-term.  

Now, here are ways to help you detox from the holidays and kick-start your whooping healthy lifestyle for 2014 and onwards.

1. Drink lots of water

Taking in water will help cleanse your system and flush out the toxins to get you back on track to a healthier you.

2. Exercise

Sweat it out! Try a class like Zumba, dancing, kickboxing, aerobics, step aerobics, yoga, Pilates. If you don’t want to wrestle with lots of gym-goers in January, try running, jogging, walking, biking right in your neighbourhood.  Sweating out the excess calories and toxins from the holiday is a great way to detoxify the body.

3. De-clutter your thoughts

You also need to silence your mind and get back into focus. Being healthy has a lot to do with a good and healthy mindset. Incorporate meditation into your activities and de-clutter the negative thoughts and the noise you still have after the hustle and bustle of the holidays.

4. Add Healthy Foods back into your system

Try to add the healthy foods before you overindulged during the holidays back into your diet. Get at least five fruit and vegetable servings in a day.
